“Wichita Naturals” Baseball Team
Logo Design – From Concept To Stitch In 4 Weeks
One of the recent projects we have been working on is a simple three-color logo design for a local baseball team called the “Wichita Naturals.” The team wanted something uniquely their own while sticking with the thunder bolt theme tantamount to the baseball bat “Wonderboy” from the movie “The Natural.” The team’s colors of navy blue, steel grey, and bright white provided an interesting challenge of how to convey the thunderbolt’s motion and power when not on a white or neutral backgrounds. Using the Tiffany Font from classic baseball uniforms, Kathryn Van Steenhuyse developed an overlapping “WN” with the signature bolt built into the unique Naturals Font developed by CreativeRHINO which was widened to strengthen the piece and emulate the stance of a baseball player at bat.
While the “WN” logo was designed to be used for team gear, it was agreed that the logo needed an element for merchandising that really drove home that this was a baseball team. An implied graphic baseball was added to both the “WN” logo as well as the full text logo for this purpose. While the team does not begin competitive play till the spring, they begin indoor practice this week. CreativeRHINO worked with our graphic printing house and Richardson Sports, Inc. to go from pencil concept mock-ups to completion in less than 4 weeks.
Today the hats arrived for the team and we’re very excited to get them to the players and coaches along with the practice jerseys which will be arriving next week! Next steps in the project will include consulting on merchandising products and building an online site for fans to shop for collectible items as well as personalized team gear. We’re very excited to see our design around the community on bumper stickers, window decals, sweatshirts, hats, and of course…at the ballpark. Go Naturals!
